Northern California’s hub for modern physical culture, where intensity, camaraderie and compassion create the ideal sanctuary for the best relationship you can have with your body. Our ongoing mission: to increase comprehension of the role of strength and well being in self actualization and our relationship to the community.

The first gym in Sacramento to…

… feature kettlebells (and tires, sandbags, leverage clubs, rings, Olympic lifting platforms, etc., etc.). Bodytribe was Sacramento’s first true physical culture gym, utilizing techniques and tools that are just now starting to register on the common fitness radar. Before Crossfit, before the MMA explosion, we were practicing a brand of strength and conditioning that TO THIS DAY is unrivaled in Sacramento. Our passion is beyond the What and How of strength, but most importantly, the Why!

Kettlebell Curious?

We were the first to use them and we continue to be the number one source of kettlebell information* and instruction in Sacramento. We’ll show you KB techniques that are unique to our Tribe, and we ask that everyone question their dogma as the the current trends in KB training.

… bring out the athlete* in ANYONE. Ya can’t really believe that the treadmills, machines and limited weight training opportunities at commercial gyms are actually FUN, can ya (and what have they truly done for you?)? People who seek ability, transcendence and empowerment train differently, but these techniques are not reserved for some secret society of athletes. Try something different and learn about yourself in the process.

… build a powerlifting team and a weightlifting team. Our fitness concepts involve embracing real strength and real ability, and therefore our clients and members are introduced to the world of strength athletics. To inspire them even further, we offer the opportunity to compete in powerlifting* (raw) and weightlifting, and our teams consist equally of women and men from all backgrounds and ability levels. Competition to us means personal empowerment through organized challenge*, not ego driven conquest.

… have regular workshops. What other gym in the area holds weekly workshops, or twice-annual strength camps*, that bring people hungry for the most exciting information on strength and ability from all over the country? None. Bodytribe has an international reputation as a fitness education center, and provides continuing opportunities for learning and cultural development.

… host award winning art shows (as well as music, spoken word and dance events). We’ve been a staple of the Second Saturday Art Walk for 7 years, and have also been a stop for touring bands and shows.

… build a community of movement and support. From charity events to movie nights to animal adoptions, Bodytribe is far more than just a gym, and has been for many years.

Who we are

The body is a tool for greater purpose, not just the end result of your training. Therefore, training is the means to an increase in the quality of life through movement. The Physical SubCulture is the modern organized effort to incorporate centuries of physical rituals and beliefs in exercise and movement into an integral part of all aspects of culture. Whether through lifting heavy objects of all shapes and sizes or finding new ways to move the body by itself, the Physical SubCulture movement is about strengthening the spirit through pushing the limits of the body.
